Social media guidelines for anatomists – how they came about and how they link to the HTA

I think the vast majority of people would agree with me that social media has become a huge part of how we communicate and keep informed, be that sharing a photo of a day on Instagram, tweeting about a recently published article or sending an update about work on WhatsApp. As somebody recently put it to me, social media can be a blessing and a curse, and this has never been truer than during the current COVID-19 pandemic since almost everyone has been forced to communicate using online technologies, including anatomy educators.

Our Chief Executive Allan Marriott-Smith takes a look back over the last decade of the HTA.

I’m sure I’m not alone in the thinking that coming to the end of another decade has relatively few highlights. I can say for certain that in January 2020 I’m older, greyer and wrinklier than in 2010, and my knees have seen better days.

Managing Authority

As an Authority Member, I and my colleagues are effectively Non-Executive Directors of the Human Tissue Authority (HTA). This gives us a fascinating oversight for the wide range of work across the HTA’s operational sectors.

Authority Members have a diverse set of backgrounds. Some of us have sector-specific experience and others are ‘lay’ members although, by law, the Chair of the HTA is required to be a lay member.
