HTA seeks sector-wide feedback through short survey following September's 2024 engagement event exploring consent processes, DI roles, regulatory collaboration, and emerging technologies in human tissue regulation.
I am Designated Individual (DI) for the University of Warwick’s HTA Research Licence, which covers two sites, one at the University campus and the other in laboratory space that the University rents from a local NHS Trust. We have five departments where human tissue is used in research, with great diversity in the projects, tissue types and characters involved in the research.
At the HTA, we have used different inspection models over the years although our core approach has been a site-based inspection, typically with two inspecting staff.
This guidance helps licensed establishments to meet the HTA’s research licensing standards. The documents contain additional information and examples of how to meet certain standards.

On inspections we look at compliance with HTA standards including consent, governance and quality systems, traceability, and premises, facilities and equipment. We check whether there are any minor, major or critical shortfalls against these standards.
