Last week, the Human Tissue Authority (HTA) joined law enforcement experts and academics at a conference hosted by the Metropolitan Police - trafficking in persons for organ removal.
The event brought together international experts and leading medical professionals from across the UK and internationally to share their expertise in an important forum for collaboration.
HTA Chief Executive, Dr Colin Sullivan, who spoke at the conference, said:
"We want to ensure that all living donations are made with consent, free of duress, coercion or reward. The HTA, as the national regulator, is responsible for approving all living organ donations in the UK. This involves ensuring proper consent is in place and that donations comply with legal requirements across 36 licensed transplant hospitals.”
