Today we have issued regulatory updates about living donation cases. The update comes as reminder about the need for vigilance and robust procedures to manage the ongoing threat of human trafficking for organ removal.
By the end of 2023, revised guidance will be published for transplant teams and Independent Assessors, providing updated best practices. Additionally, by April 2024, all Assessors will undergo mandatory refresher training, including education on identifying signs and indicators of trafficking.
We have written to living donation coordinators and independent assessors as a reminder to follow the guidance. This includes ensuring comprehensive evidence of claimed relationships and conducting interviews with the donor and recipient separately and together. Copies of the letters are below.
The letters have been issued as regulatory updates. A full list of regulatory updates can be found here : https://www.hta.gov.uk/guidance-professionals/codes-practice-standards-and-legislation/regulatory-alerts
